Jazz as a musical encounter: The Alexander Wittges Trio presents THE CONNECTOR
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Alexander Wittges Trio invites you to a jazz matinee at the Diocesan Museum Freising. Pianist Alexander Wittges will present his first trio album THE CONNECTOR live, with Rafael De Sousa on bass and Emil Pesendorfer on drums.
Nine compositions, a shared sound space
The album title is programmatic: THE CONNECTOR understands jazz as a connection between musicians, stage, and audience. Nine original compositions open spaces for modern jazz improvisation, rhythmic shifts, and contrasting turns. The three voices encounter each other not in a fixed hierarchy, but in a musical conversation.
Piano, bass, and drums in a lively dialogue
Alexander Wittges shapes the trio with melodic clarity, lyrical piano playing, and open improvisational spaces. Rafael De Sousa brings his Brazilian musical culture and a keen sense for groove. Emil Pesendorfer combines swing tradition with modern influences, giving the rhythm section precise dynamics.
A release concert with its own stage performance
The concert is not merely a reproduction of the studio recording. In the live atmosphere of the Diocesan Museum, an independent performance arises, where synchronization, spontaneous interaction, and musical risk-taking define the sound. Each twist can become a new impulse, and every solo moment remains part of the larger whole.
Alexander Wittges in the Bavarian jazz scene
Alexander Wittges is one of the active young pianists in the Bavarian jazz scene. Since March 2025, he has been leading his own trio, founded the A'Jazz JAM in Freising, and received two scholarships from IG Jazz Burghausen in 2025. He achieved second place as a soloist at the piano in the Youth Jazz Bayern competition. He deepened his training with Tizian Jost, Lukas Voith, and Michael Gelius, among others.
Brazilian groove and modern rhythm
Rafael De Sousa has been professionally active since 2013, moving between jazz, MPB, pop, rock, gospel, and instrumental music. Emil Pesendorfer has been studying jazz drums at MUK in Vienna since 2026 and received a scholarship for the jazz course in Burghausen. Together, the musicians form a transparent, agile ensemble sound, in which each voice remains audible.
The audience can expect a focused concert experience between composition and improvisation, tradition, and the present. Anyone wishing to experience jazz as an immediate encounter should discover this matinee live at the Diocesan Museum Freising.
