St. Nicholas was a Sailor: Advent Shanties in Freising
When maritime sea songs meet the special acoustics of a church, an Advent concert with its own sound color is created. The Freising Isar Shantys invite you to the Heilig Geist Church in Freising on Saturday, December 5, 2026, blending North German seafaring romance with festive Advent spirit.
Between Harbor Sounds and Advent Light
Under the direction of Wienke Eilers, the ensemble guides through a program where powerful choral singing, rhythmic shanty traditions, and contemplative moments come together. The title St. Nicholas was a Sailor sets an unusual musical accent and opens the view to the maritime side of the Advent season.
Alphorns as a Unique Sound Color
The Freising Alphorn Trio enriches the concert evening as a musical guest. The warm, far-carrying natural tones of the alphorns set a striking contrast to the multi-voiced shanty sound and promise an exciting orchestration. In the church acoustics, the long sound lines can unfold impressively.
Live Atmosphere in the Heilig Geist Church
The Heilig Geist Church provides the fitting setting for this concert experience. Between Advent expectation, communal singing, and maritime stage performance, an audience atmosphere arises that makes traditional music directly experiential. Doors open at 6:30 PM, the concert starts at 7:00 PM.
Conclusion: An Advent Concert with Wanderlust
Friends of choral music, shanties, and special pre-Christmas concerts will experience an evening in Freising filled with sailor tales, alphorn sounds, and Advent light. Those who wish to experience the Freising Isar Shantys live should mark December 5, 2026, and secure tickets in time.
