When Children's Rights Get Color: Graffiti Art at the Freising City Library

From September 8 to October 17, 2026, the Freising City Library transforms into a vibrant exhibition space. The exhibit Creative Works for Children's Rights showcases numerous graffiti artworks created on canvas by aspiring educators from the Academy for Social Pedagogy during a workshop with artist Oliver Skarvan.

Color as a Language of Participation

Bright colors, distinctive shapes, and an expressive visual language translate central children's rights into immediately relatable motifs. Participation, equal opportunities, and intercultural coexistence gain a visual presence that invites concentrated contemplation of the works and open dialogue. The graffiti aesthetic merges with cultural education and social pedagogical practice.

Street Art Meets Cultural Education

The central question of the underlying seminar was how children's rights become palpable in the daily lives of children and adolescents. The aspiring educators engaged intensively with participation, fairness, community, and the right to be heard. They then translated their findings into colorful and meaningful compositions.

Graffiti on Canvas: Bridging Art and Educational Work

The art form graffiti stands for visibility, personal positioning, and the creative appropriation of space. In the City Library, this energetic visual language is presented on canvas. This allows street art aesthetics, painting, art education, and social pedagogical educational work to meet in an unusual exhibition context.

A Project with Social Responsibility

The course Implementing Children's Rights Locally – Intercultural – Participatory – Interactive was initiated by diploma social pedagogue Meral Meindl. The management was taken over by art educator Elfriede Schober-Schröger. The materials were financed through the state action Green for Children and the vocational school center. Thus, the exhibition connects artistic practice, education, participation, and democratic responsibility.

Art Experience Between Books and Colors

The exhibition atmosphere arises from the contrast between the calm character of the library and the visual energy of the graffiti works. Among books and shelves, the vividly colored canvases create a special spatial effect. Families, young people, educational professionals, and art enthusiasts experience an accessible approach to contemporary art and cultural education.

Conclusion: Experience Children's Rights in Color

Creative Works for Children's Rights impressively demonstrates how young people translate societal issues into images, colors, and shapes. Visitors can expect an inspiring art experience between graffiti, painting, aesthetic experience, and democratic responsibility. Those who want to understand children's rights not just as an abstract concept but experience them in creative positions should definitely visit this exhibition at the Freising City Library.
