When children's rights gain color: Graffiti art at the Freising City Library
From September 8 to October 17, 2026, the Freising City Library will be transformed into a vibrant exhibition space. The show Creative Works for Children's Rights presents numerous graffiti artworks created by aspiring educators from the Academy for Social Pedagogy in a workshop with artist Oliver Skarvan on canvas. Admission is free.
Street Art as a Language of Participation
Bright colors, striking shapes, and an expressive visual language translate central children's rights into immediately perceivable motifs. Participation, equal opportunities, and intercultural coexistence receive a visual presence that invites focused contemplation of the works and open discussion.
Aesthetic Experience and Cultural Education
The focus of the underlying seminar was on the question of how children's rights become tangible in the everyday lives of children and adolescents. The aspiring educators intensely engaged with participation, protection, fairness, and the right to be heard. They then transferred their insights into colorful and meaningful graffiti compositions.
Graffiti on Canvas: Between Art and Pedagogical Practice
The art movement of graffiti stands for visibility, personal positioning, and the creative appropriation of space. In the City Library, this energetic visual language is presented concentrated on canvas. As a result, street art aesthetics, painting, art education, and social pedagogical work meet in an unusual exhibition context.
A Project with Social Responsibility
The course to implement children's rights locally – intercultural – participatory – interactive was initiated by social educator Meral Meindl. The leadership was taken over by art educator Elfriede Schober-Schröger. The materials for the designs were funded through the state action Green for Children and the Vocational School Center. Thus, the exhibition connects artistic practice, education, participation, and democratic responsibility.
Art Experience Between Books and Colors
The atmosphere of the exhibition arises from the contrast between the quiet character of the library and the visual energy of the graffiti works. Among books and shelves, the color-intensive canvases unfold a special spatial effect. Families, young people, pedagogical professionals, and art enthusiasts experience a low-threshold access to contemporary art and cultural education here.
The Freising City Library opens with Creative Works for Children's Rights a space for aesthetic experience, exchange, and societal reflection. Visitors can expect an inspiring art experience that connects color, attitude, and education. Those who want to experience children's rights not just as an abstract concept but in images, shapes, and creative positions should definitely visit this exhibition live.
