When Children's Rights Get Color: Graffiti Art at the Freising City Library

From September 8 to October 17, 2026, the Freising City Library will be transformed into a vibrant exhibition space. The exhibition Creative Works for Children's Rights presents numerous graffiti pieces created by aspiring educators from the Academy for Social Pedagogy in a workshop with artist Oliver Skarvan on canvas.

Color as a Language of Participation

Bright colors, striking shapes, and an expressive visual language translate central children's rights into immediately tangible motifs. Participation, equal opportunities, and intercultural coexistence gain a visible presence that invites focused contemplation of the works and open discussion.

Street Art Meets Cultural Education

The art form of graffiti stands for visibility, personal positioning, and creative appropriation of space. In the exhibition, this energetic visual language is concentrated on canvas. Thus, contemporary art, painting, social pedagogical practice, and cultural education come together in a socially relevant exhibition concept.

A Project with Educational Depth

The focus of the course Implementing Children's Rights Locally – Intercultural – Participatory – Interactive was the idea that children's rights should not only exist on paper but must be palpable in the daily lives of children and young people. The project was initiated by diploma social pedagogue Meral Meindl, with art educator Elfriede Schober-Schröger taking over the leadership. The materials for the designs were financed through the State Action Green for Children and the Vocational School Center.

Art Experience Between Books and Colors

The atmosphere of the exhibition arises from the enticing contrast between the calm character of the library and the visual energy of the graffiti works. Amidst books and shelves, the color-intensive canvases create a special spatial effect. Families, young people, pedagogical professionals, and art enthusiasts experience an accessible approach to contemporary art and aesthetic experience.

Opening Hours and Visit

The exhibition is accessible during the opening hours of the city library: Tuesdays from 10 AM to 7 PM, Wednesdays to Fridays from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. On Friday, October 2, 2026, the library will be open until 8:30 PM for the Long Night of Democracy. Admission is free.

Conclusion: Experiencing Children's Rights in Color

Creative Works for Children's Rights impressively shows how young people translate social issues into images, colors, and forms. Visitors can expect an inspiring art experience between graffiti, painting, cultural education, and democratic responsibility. Those who want to experience children's rights not just as an abstract term but in creative expressions should definitely attend this exhibition at the Freising City Library in person.
