When personal images create a shared We
The exhibition Connecting Values – Art from I to We transforms the City Library of Freising into an open space for art, democracy, and cultural education. From September 8 to October 17, 2026, the presentation showcases collages and canvases created in value workshops with children, students, and adults.
Democratic values become visible
Under the guidance of artist and art therapist Marian Kretschmer, participants have engaged with freedom, respect, responsibility, solidarity, and community. The artistic work makes visible how individual perspectives can transition into a collective expression.
Each collage and each canvas retains a personal touch. At the same time, the exhibition refers to a collective process: colors, shapes, layers, and image signs tell stories of exchange, negotiation, and the attempt to develop a sustainable We from many voices.
Painting and collage as tools for encounters
The combination of painting and collage creates a vibrant exhibition atmosphere. Overlays, material contrasts, and diverse visual languages open a contemplation of the works that goes beyond mere aesthetic surface. The works invite reflection on the relationship between personal freedom and collective responsibility.
Art education with an international perspective
The workshop results are complemented by works from Marian Kretschmer, which were created during his art education work at schools in Tanzania. Since 2016, he has been working with Marafiki wa Afrika e. V. on topics such as encounter, respect, self-confidence, and community.
Thus, the exhibition connects local cultural education with an intercultural art project. The presentation opens perspectives on solidarity, equality, and the importance of encounter in different social contexts.
An art experience for all generations
The exhibition is aimed at art-interested citizens of all ages. Especially in the City Library, access to art is made easy: amidst books, encounters, and public life, the aesthetic experience is directly linked to social reflection.
Conclusion: Connecting Values – Art from I to We shows how personal image ideas can lead to a common dialogue. Visitors can expect an inspiring art experience about democracy, community, and cultural responsibility. The exhibition visit is particularly worthwhile for those who want to not only view art but also experience it as a space for encounters and societal reflection.
