When a Shared We Arises from Many Perspectives
The exhibition Connecting Values – Art from Me to We transforms the City Library of Freising into an open space for art, democracy, and cultural education. From September 8 to October 17, 2026, children, students, and adults will showcase collages and canvases created during values workshops led by artist and art therapist Marian Kretschmer.
Art Makes Democratic Values Visible
Democracy in this presentation is not portrayed as a rigid political construct but as a vibrant process of togetherness and active shaping. The exhibited works engage with community, responsibility, respect, freedom, and participation. Each collage and canvas retains a personal touch. Together, the works form a multifaceted visual dialogue about how individual perspectives can converge into a shared We.
Collage and Painting as Open Thinking and Visual Spaces
The combination of collage and painting creates a lively exhibition atmosphere. Color fields, shapes, layers, and various materials make personal experiences as visible as social references. The examination of the works opens access to cultural education that does not end with the finished composition but also takes into account the creative process and the interaction of participants. Thus, art becomes an aesthetic experience and a possibility for shared reflection.
Marian Kretschmer and the International Perspective from Tanzania
The project was conceived under the leadership of Marian Kretschmer, who works as an artist and art therapist. The results of the values workshops are complemented by works from his work in schools in Tanzania. His long-term collaboration with the Marafiki wa Afrika association expands the local exhibition context to include an international perspective. The additional works refer to the connective power of artistic practice and to art as a bridge between different worlds of life.
The City Library as a Cultural Meeting Place
With its light-filled spaces and central location, the City Library of Freising provides an accessible setting for this presentation. Among books, images, and public encounters, space is created for focused examination of the works, conversation, and personal reflection. The exhibition is suitable for art enthusiasts, families, school classes, and anyone who wishes to explore democratic values through art, cultural education, and sensory perception.
Visitor Information
The exhibition can be seen during the regular opening hours of the City Library: Tuesdays from 10 AM to 7 PM, Wednesdays to Fridays from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. On Friday, October 2, 2026, the library was open until 8:30 PM as part of the Long Night of Democracy. Admission is free.
Conclusion: Democracy as an Art Experience
Connecting Values – Art from Me to We promises a touching and educational exhibition where personal expressiveness, social responsibility, and cultural diversity come together. Visitors can expect an art experience that spans painting, collage, social dialogue, and aesthetic experience. Those who want to experience how many individual voices can create a common resonance space should definitely visit this presentation live at the City Library of Freising.
