Shards and Splinters: Lars Herrmann's Mysterious Visual Worlds in Freising
The exhibition Shards and Splinters at the Freising City Library presents from October 24 to November 28, 2026, an impressive cross-section of the long-term work of the Freising artist Lars Herrmann. Admission is free.
The Ballpoint Pen as an Artistic Instrument
At the center lies drawing with the ballpoint pen. Through finely set lines, differentiated pressure strengths, and dense hatching, Herrmann develops an extraordinary depth and intensity. The everyday writing instrument transforms into a precise tool of contemporary drawing.
Between Realism, Surrealism, and Fantasy
The works open up enigmatic scenes, fantastic landscapes, and unusual perspectives. Influences from realism, surrealism, and fantastic art combine with personal memories, mythological echoes, and literary worlds of H. P. Lovecraft and J. R. R. Tolkien. Own views of the cathedral city of Freising also find their way into the visual language.
Twenty Years of Artistic Development
The exhibition provides insight into around two decades of artistic work and unites works from the period of 2008 to 2026. Among them are works that have not yet been publicly shown in Freising. Around 200 works by Lars Herrmann are already in private collections.
A Quiet Exhibition Atmosphere between Art and Literature
The city library creates a special setting for viewing the works. Between books and reading areas, an atmospheric dialogue of image, literature, and inner imagination emerges. Light hairlines, deep shadows, and finest graphic structures invite one to slowly explore the drawings. The exhibition allows for a concentrated aesthetic experience and cultural education directly at the original.
Visiting and Opening Hours
The exhibition is accessible during the opening hours of the city library: Tuesdays from 10 AM to 7 PM, Wednesdays to Fridays from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. The opening took place on October 23, 2026, at 6:30 PM and was opened by art historian Dr. Veronika Winkler.
Conclusion: Drawing as a Journey into Inner Visual Spaces
Visitors can expect an intense art experience between precision, dreams, memory, and fantasy. Lars Herrmann shows how multifaceted visual spaces emerge from an ordinary ballpoint pen. Those who appreciate contemporary drawing, regional art, and poetic fantasy should definitely experience this exhibition live at the Freising City Library.
