Splinters and Shards: Mysterious Image Worlds by Lars Herrmann

At the Freising City Library, artist Lars Herrmann presents a selection from around twenty years of his work from October 24 to November 28, 2026. The exhibition leads into a distinctive world of realistic observations, fantastic landscapes, and surreal scenarios.

The Ballpoint Pen as an Artistic Tool

At the center of the exhibition is drawing with a ballpoint pen. Through finely differentiated lines, varying pressure, and intricate hatching, Lars Herrmann develops an extraordinary depth. The brightest hairlines meet dense, deep black shadows; from an everyday writing instrument arise images of poetic intensity.

Between Realism, Fantasy, and Surrealism

Herrmann's visual language combines elements of realism, fantasy, and surrealism. Familiar forms tilt into mysterious situations, fantastic motifs gain an almost tangible presence through precise drawing technique. The works open dreamlike image spaces that invite concentrated consideration and personal interpretation.

Literary Traces and the View of Freising

The exhibition references literary worlds of H. P. Lovecraft and J. R. R. Tolkien. At the same time, Herrmann looks at his adopted home Freising and connects fantastic ideas with his own views of the cathedral city. This creates a tension between inner imagination, cultural memory, and observed reality.

An Artist Between Drawing and Art History

Lars Herrmann, born in 1968 in the Ore Mountains, has been drawing since early childhood. He studied art history, has worked as a freelance artist since 2003, and has lived in Freising since 2017. His works have been exhibited in museums, galleries, and exhibition spaces at home and abroad. For his works, he has received, among others, the Art Prize of the City of Ansbach, the Schwabach Art Prize ORTUNG VIII, and the 2nd Franconian Art Prize.

Vernissage and Visit

The vernissage takes place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 6:30 PM. Art historian Dr. Veronika Winkler will open the exhibition. Afterwards, the show is accessible during the opening hours of the city library: Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesdays to Fridays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Admission is free.

Conclusion: A Quiet, Intense Artistic Experience

Splinters and Shards promises a concentrated aesthetic experience between drawing precision and dreamlike fantasy. Those wishing to discover contemporary drawing, regional art, and artistically multifaceted image worlds will find an exhibition at the Freising City Library that resonates long after. A visit opens new perspectives on the expressive power of the ballpoint pen and on the hidden realms of human imagination.
