MAOTIK: Random Blooms – When Movement Makes Digital Flowers Sound

At the Schafhof – European Art Forum Upper Bavaria in Freising, contemporary media art, science, and technology come together. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the interactive installation Bloom by the French digital artist Mathieu Le Sourd, known as MAOTIK. The work transforms gestures and movements of the audience into glowing digital flowers and a changing sound composition.

A Work Observation that Responds to Gestures

The aesthetic experience begins with one's own presence. Using Lidar technology, Bloom captures the movements of visitors. Hand gestures and body impulses create abstract shapes, digital flowers, and audiovisual structures that change in real-time.

Each interaction generates a new constellation of color, light, form, and sound. The installation never appears completely identical and makes the audience the initiator of an open, generative composition.

Generative Art between Nature and Technology

MAOTIK translates natural growth processes into a digital image architecture. Organic forms meet algorithmic systems, while electronic sounds expand the visual dynamics. Chance does not act as a disturbance but as a creative principle.

The work exemplifies a direction in art where the artwork is not seen as a static object but as a responsive system. Sensory technology, programming, and artistic composition combine to create a sensibly experiential installation at the intersection of art, science, and technology.

Immersive Exhibition Atmosphere in the Barrel Vault

In the historic barrel vault of the Schafhof, Bloom unfolds a special spatial effect. Light projections, digital flowers, and sound merge into an immersive environment. The boundaries between viewers, artwork, and exhibition space become permeable.

The exhibition opens up immediate access to cultural education and contemporary media art. It invites reflection on perception, authorship, human-machine interaction, and the role of chance in creative processes.

Opening Hours and Accessibility

The exhibition is on view from September 19 to November 29, 2026. Until October 31, the opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 2 PM to 7 PM, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 AM to 7 PM. From November 1, the Schafhof opens Wednesday to Saturday from 2 PM to 6 PM, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 AM to 6 PM.

Admission to the exhibition and accompanying programs is free. The exhibition spaces and the café are accessible without steps.

Conclusion: Letting Digital Nature Emerge

MAOTIK: Random Blooms promises an extraordinary art experience for all who wish to combine interactive media art, generative design, and sensory work observation. Visitors experience a mutable landscape of light, sound, and movement that only emerges through their presence. Those who want to experience contemporary art physically, immediately, and surprisingly should definitely visit this exhibition at the Schafhof Freising live.
