MAOTIK: Random Blooms – When Movement Makes Digital Flowers Sound

At the Schafhof – European Art Forum Upper Bavaria in Freising, the exhibition MAOTIK: Random Blooms connects contemporary media art with science and technology. At its center is the interactive installation Bloom, which only fully comes to life through the presence and movement of the audience. The exhibition visit becomes an immersive art experience of light, sound, color, and space.

An Installation Between Light, Sound, and Movement

Using Lidar technology, Bloom captures the gestures and movements of visitors. Digital flowers, abstract shapes, and a sound composition emerge from hand movements and body impulses, changing in real-time. Each interaction creates a new audiovisual constellation, making the viewing of the work unique.

Generative Art as a Creative Principle

MAOTIK develops immersive environments at the intersection of art, science, and technology. The installation follows a parametric image and sound architecture approach, where algorithms, data, sensors, and human presence interact. Randomness does not appear as a disturbance, but as a productive artistic force: No digital flower, sound sequence, or moment of aesthetic experience repeats itself completely.

MAOTIK and Nature as a Digital Image

The French digital artist Mathieu Le Sourd, known as MAOTIK, abstracts natural processes in his audiovisual sculptures and translates them into flowing digital imagery. His artistic practice combines generative design, interactive installations, and immersive spaces. MAOTIK studied Digital Media Production at the London College of Communication in London and earned a master's degree in Digital Arts at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.

Exhibition Atmosphere in the Historic Barrel Vault

In the historic barrel vault of the Schafhof, the architectural effect of the place meets the flowing light forms of the digital installation. The concentrated exhibition atmosphere draws attention to colors, shapes, sound, and movement. The audience does not observe a static sculpture but enters an open artistic process that reshapes itself with each gesture.

Cultural Education Through Immediate Work Observation

Random Blooms opens an illustrative access to generative art and digital media art. The installation makes it tangible how programming, sensor technology, and artistic composition interlock. At the same time, questions arise regarding perception, nature, authorship, and the relationship between humans and technology. Thus, the exhibition connects sensory experience with art-historical and technical reflection.

Visitation and Accessibility

The exhibition is open from September 19 to November 29, 2026, at the Schafhof. In November, opening hours are from Wednesday to Saturday from 2 PM to 6 PM, and on Sundays and holidays from 10 AM to 6 PM. Admission to the exhibition and accompanying programs is free. The exhibition spaces and the café are accessible without steps.

Conclusion: Let Digital Nature Emerge

MAOTIK: Random Blooms promises an extraordinary art experience for everyone seeking interactive media art, generative design, and a sensory observation of the work. Light, sound, and movement combine into an aesthetic experience that only comes alive through the audience. A visit to the Schafhof enriches cultural education and impressively shows how contemporary art at the intersection of science and technology opens new spaces of perception.
