MAOTIK: Random Blossoms – When movement brings digital flowers to sound
In the historic barrel vault of the Schafhof – European Art Forum Upper Bavaria in Freising, the exhibition MAOTIK: Random Blossoms connects contemporary media art, science, and technology. At the center is the interactive installation Bloom, which involves the audience not just as observers but as active participants in the artwork.
An audiovisual landscape of light, sound, and movement
The experience of the work begins with one's own presence. Using Lidar technology, Bloom captures the movements and gestures of visitors. From hand movements and body impulses, glowing digital flowers, abstract shapes, and a sound composition are created that changes in real time.
Each interaction generates a new visual and acoustic constellation. Colors, shapes, light, and sound merge into an immersive spatial effect that never fully repeats. This creates an aesthetic experience between randomness, control, and physical perception.
Digital art as a living system
MAOTIK, the artist name of Mathieu Le Sourd, works with immersive environments, interactive installations, and audiovisual compositions. His artistic practice combines generative design with scientific research and technological development.
Random Blossoms exemplifies a contemporary art direction in which the work does not appear as a static object but as a responsive system. The installation makes visible and audible how a small gesture can lead to a complex digital event. The audience becomes the catalyst of the visual and acoustic architecture.
Art, science, and cultural education
The exhibition is part of the annual theme Play and Chance at the Schafhof. It offers an accessible entry point to media art and invites visitors to experience questions about perception, technology, authorship, and artistic communication firsthand.
The exhibition spaces and the café are accessible without steps. The exhibition and accompanying programs can be visited free of charge. Until October 31, opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Starting November 1, the exhibition will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Conclusion: An art experience that is created through movement
MAOTIK: Random Blossoms transforms the exhibition space into a changeable landscape of light, sound, and movement. Visitors experience digital art physically, sensorially, and immediately. Anyone who wants to experience the aesthetic of an interactive installation for themselves should definitely visit this special exhibition at the Schafhof Freising live.
