MAOTIK: Random Blossoms – When Movement Makes Digital Flowers Sound
In the historic barrel vault of the Schafhof – European Art Forum Upper Bavaria – the exhibition MAOTIK: Random Blossoms transforms the exhibition space into an immersive landscape of light, sound, and movement. At its center is the interactive installation Bloom by French digital artist Mathieu Le Sourd, known as MAOTIK.
A Work Observance That Responds to Gestures
Bloom captures the movements and gestures of the audience using Lidar technology. From hand movements and body impulses, glowing digital flowers, abstract shapes, and a sound composition emerge that changes in real-time. Each interaction creates a new constellation of color, light, shape, and sound. The artwork is never fully identical and makes visitors the initiators of an open, generative composition.
Generative Art Between Nature and Technology
MAOTIK connects natural growth processes with parametric design, algorithms, and digital image architecture. Organic forms meet specially developed software, while electronic sounds expand the visual dynamics. Chance does not act as a disturbance, but as a creative principle.
The work exemplifies a contemporary art direction in which the artwork does not appear as a static object but as a responsive system. Sensor technology, programming, and artistic composition combine to create a sensually tangible installation at the intersection of art, science, and technology.
Immersive Exhibition Atmosphere in the Barrel Vault
In the historic barrel vault, Bloom unfolds a special spatial effect. Light projections, digital flowers, and sound merge into an audiovisual sculpture, where the boundaries between viewers, artwork, and exhibition space become permeable. The aesthetic experience is not created solely through sight but also through movement, hearing, and immediate interaction.
Artistic Classification and Cultural Education
Mathieu Le Sourd studied Digital Media Production at the London College of Communication and obtained a master's degree in Digital Arts at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. As MAOTIK, he develops immersive environments, interactive installations, and audiovisual performances that change perception in real-time. His nature-inspired generative art uses sound, algorithms, and data to make new forms of human-machine interaction tangible.
Random Blossoms thus opens a vivid approach to cultural education: The exhibition invites reflection on body perception, communication, authorship, and the role of chance in creative processes.
Opening Hours and Accessibility
The exhibition can be seen from September 19 to November 29, 2026. Until October 31, the opening hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 2 PM to 7 PM and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 AM to 7 PM. Admission to the exhibition and accompanying programs is free. The exhibition rooms and café are accessible without stairs.
Conclusion: Letting Digital Nature Emerge
Visitors can expect an extraordinary art experience where every gesture leaves traces and every moment produces a new image and sound world. Those who want to experience contemporary media art, interactive installation, and sensual work observation should definitely visit MAOTIK: Random Blossoms live at the Schafhof Freising.
