Between Paper and Steel: A Poetic Exhibition in Freising

The galerie 13 presents Reinhard Wöllmer's exhibition Paper Objects and Steel Sculptures. From September 22 to November 7, 2026, paper, steel, surface, and space come together in a concentrated art experience between strict construction, structural abstraction, and playful poetry.

Paper Becomes a Sculptural Body

Reinhard Wöllmer contradicts every notion of paper as merely a fragile image carrier. His paper objects are created from colored paper mache, which the artist shapes with great craftsmanship. Rolled paper is hammered into convex-concave bodies. Thus, a lightweight material develops into an independent sculpture with precise contour, sensual surface, and surprising spatial presence.

Circular Form, Construction, and Poetic Openness

The motif of the circle occupies a central place in Wöllmer's work. Curves, discs, and curved shapes combine geometric clarity with an almost organic effect. The works inhabit the realm of constructive art, geometric abstraction, and contemporary material aesthetics. Their tension arises from contrasts: order meets movement, lightness encounters weight, surface transforms into space.

Steel as a Spatial Counterforce

The paper objects are contrasted by steel sculptures with constructive presence. The metal adds a clear, architectural tension to the exhibition atmosphere, while paper stands for transformation, colorfulness, and tactile finesse. In the examination of the works, material processes, light, shadow, contour, and spatial effects become perceptible step by step.

Artistic Biography and Art Historical Contextualization

Reinhard Wöllmer was born in 1957 in Nuremberg and studied from 1977 to 1984 at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg under Clemens Fischer, of whom he was a master student. A scholarship from the city of Nuremberg took him to Skopje. Wöllmer has received, among other honors, the Hollfeld Art Prize and the Art Prize from the Art Association Spirale Treuchtlingen. His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions and are part of public collections.
