Bright Crafting Fun for Little Artists

As the days grow shorter and St. Martin approaches, the DIMU workshop in Freising transforms into a creative space for the whole family. In the open workshop Lantern, Lantern, Sun, Moon and Stars!, visitors create a small lantern made of shiny metal foil.

Embossing, Pricking, and Gluing

With their own hands, a very special light object is created to take home. The children emboss patterns into the metal foil, prick fine shapes, and then assemble the individual elements into a lantern. This family experience combines creative crafting with an age-appropriate learning experience.

Inspiration from Art

The design is inspired by the stars and the moon in the works of artist Kiki Smith. This way, children discover art in a child-friendly manner and develop curiosity about shapes, light, and materials. The open workshop makes cultural education immediately tangible and provides families with shared time full of learning fun.

Open Workshop for All Age Groups

The offer is aimed at all visitors of the museum and all age groups. Younger children can receive support from an adult companion if needed. Up to ten people can be supervised in the workshop at the same time; thus, there is room for focused work and a safe, relaxed atmosphere.

A Memorable Family Experience at DIMU

Amid shiny foil, bright ideas, and curious children's eyes, a lantern is created that makes the upcoming Martin's parade even more beautiful. The professional guidance by Kevin Krykon and the museum educational integration give the crafting a special cultural value.

Look forward to children's laughter, collaborative tinkering, and a self-made light for the darkening season. Experience the open workshop live at the Diocesan Museum Freising and take home a personal lantern.
