Korbinian 2026: Faith, Community, and Lived Tradition in Freising
When the Freising Cathedral Hill fills with pilgrims, youth, and families in November, faith becomes experienceable as a living community. Korbinian 2026 connects worship, pilgrimage, prayer, culture, and encounters around Saint Korbinian, the patron of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising.
Youth Korbinian on November 14
The Youth Korbinian opens the Korbinian week with a service in Freising Cathedral. At 4:00 PM, Archbishop Reinhard Cardinal Marx celebrates with the youth. Starting at 5:30 PM, the youth event begins on Cathedral Hill and in St. George's Parish Hall with creative participation activities, inspiring workshops, spiritual offerings, and a party area with a DJ. Pilgrims can also find refreshments with a pilgrimage meal and tea. A concluding impulse in the cathedral at 9:40 PM leads to a shared wind-down until the event ends at 10:00 PM.
Pilgrimage as an Experience of Faith
Young people from the entire Archdiocese of Munich and Freising make their way to Freising in groups, either on foot or by public transport. The pilgrimage offers space for prayer, encounters, and personal spirituality. The guiding motif of the youth pilgrimage is Dream[e] on. It is recommended to register in advance for entry to the cathedral; registration at the information booth in the Cathedral Square begins at 3:00 PM, with entry starting at 3:30 PM.
The Korbinian Pilgrimage in November
On November 20, the festival continues with a light celebration in St. George's at 5:30 PM. The subsequent lantern procession leads through the Freising city center up to the cathedral, where a Vespers service is celebrated with Cardinal Reinhard Marx. On November 21, a festive service takes place at 10:00 AM, followed by a social gathering and a colorful culinary and cultural program on Cathedral Hill. A panel discussion on loneliness and its effects on democracy, as well as the concluding prayer with the Korbinian blessing, round out the program.
